TYPES OF TREATMENT

COGNITIVE BEHAVIOUR THERAPY (CBT)

CBT is one of the most tried and true treatments for anxiety, depression, and relationships with ourselves and others. This modality is based on the premise that our perceptions fuel what we tell ourselves about situations, and that "self-talk" shapes how we feel and act. CBT focuses on challenging and changing distorted thinking patterns and unhelpful behaviours. With CBT we can work on establishing effective "self-talk", implementing coping strategies, and boosting self-esteem.

PSYCHODYNAMIC THERAPY

Working within a Psychodynamic Therapy framework, one of the primary goals is to help clients find patterns in their thoughts, beliefs, and emotions in order to better understand themselves. Increased self-awareness can assist in breaking those patterns that are often stuck in the unconscious, patterns that interfere with your wellbeing. Psychodynamic Therapy can help you to create new, more helpful patterns of relating to yourself and the world around you.

SOLUTION FOCUSED THERAPY (SFT)

SFT is a practical, positive, and strength-based approach in therapy that focuses on creating solutions for a more helpful way forward. Working together we identify past and present factors that may be contributing to the problem. We identify your strengths and unused resources, set specific goals, and then work towards those changes together.

COUPLES THERAPY

Creating a safe space for you and your partner to explore new ways of expressing needs and managing conflict. In Couples Therapy, the therapist can help you work together through common issues that arise in relationships, such as intimacy, finances, expectations, affection, co-parenting, and communication.

DIALECTICAL BEHAVIOUR THERAPY (DBT)

DBT works with mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotional regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness skills to help cope with emotionally upsetting situations you may have experienced in the past or are currently experiencing. The term "dialectical" refers to the merging of two opposite ideas; in this case the opposing notions of acceptance and change. DBT counselling promotes acceptance of life's challenges by incorporating change through the use of emotional regulation and interpersonal effectiveness skills. DBT has long been seen as a primary approach to treating mood disorders that may often be triggered by feelings of abandonment, self-harm, and substance use.

NARRATIVE THERAPY

In Narrative Therapy, we explore the stories that you develop and maintain through your experiences that help shape how you interact with the world around you. This style of therapy puts you in the position of being the expert in your own life using a strength-based, non-blaming approach. Through Narrative Therapy, you'll work to separate yourself from the problem, identifying how you may want to "rewrite" your story in a way that reflects your values, your capabilities, and your purpose.
